Together they approached the Selinsgrove School District about transferring the contract. ADAM TRANSPORTATION FAMILY HISTORY

Richard Powers Jr. started driving a school bus for Haverford Township Schools (Delaware County, PA) in 1962. He paired driving with his full time evening job as a projection and real operator at the movie theater, back before computers did the job. In 1974, his new son in law, Phil Adam joined the District and began driving run 12, as well as working in the shop as a mechanic. Then in 1976, Phil’s wife, Teri, joined the district as a full-time special needs bus driver. After Richard retired to a farm in Florida in the late 80’s, Phil and Teri moved to a small farm outside of Selinsgrove to start a family.

Phil stayed in the bus business commuting to Rohrer Bus in Duncannon to work. Around 1994, Phil started at a diesel shop in Selinsgrove; which had the service contract for Sharitz Bus Service. Teri continued to drive bus for summer church camps, while also working nights full time at a factory in Liverpool. Phil recruited their oldest son, PJ, to work at a young age as a bus cleaner for Sharitz Bus Service. PJ was later promoted to painting bumpers and rims. Despite having been driving buses on the lot for much of his life, PJ officially got his school bus license two weeks after turning 18 years old.

PJ drove a full time school bus route while attending Penn State University - Main Campus for State College School District, in conjunction with driving charter bus to help pay for college. After graduating, PJ took a position as the Transportation Manager for Rohrer Bus within the Juniata County School District at Mifflintown. This is where he met his wife, Alyssa, who at the time was the School District Athletic Director. With PJ’s new position, his mom, Teri began driving school bus again, taking on a special needs run to/from Pittsburgh twice a week.

In 2017, Lisa Weikel, the longtime office manager for Sharitz Bus Service, established Weikel Busing, LLC upon the retirement of Ernie and Sarah Sharitz. This is when Lisa asked PJ to come back “home” to be the Operations Manager. After expanding service to Midd-West School District, surviving COVID, as well as expanding Weikel Busing’s charter bus division, Weikel Busing had grown enough for PJ’s wife, Alyssa, to join the company full time.

In August of 2021, Alyssa and PJ, the third generation of the Adam Family in student transportation, established Adam Transportation, LLC. A short time later, Adam Transportation, LLC began leasing school buses to Weikel Busing with the long term anticipated plan of taking over Weikel Busing’s contracts once Lisa retires. With this, in Spring of 2023 the two families decided to work together on a proposal for Lewisburg Area School District under Adam Transportation, LLC to really start building upon the Adam Family busing transition. Since 2023 Adam Transportation has operated the bus and van fleet for Lewisburg Area, with the addition of Mifflinburg School District’s preschool programs in 2024.
